DJ Rick Johnson has
been involved in car shows and cruises for over 14 years. I started
broadcasting as a DJ at radio station WCND in Shelbyville in 1987.
I have worked at Frankfort stations WFKY and WKED. I left radio
in the mid 90’s. Since then I have been doing car shows and
cruises in Kentucky and Indiana. My love of cars and people has
made this an enjoyable hobby.
I graduated from
Franklin County High School in 1975, attended broadcasting classes
at Fugazzi College in Lexington and graduated from KSU with an Associate
degree in computer science. I have made a career out of Information
Technology and currently retired from the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
I have a great family and am married to Susan Heady Johnson. We
have twin daughters and two beautiful grandchildren.
From an early age
I have always had a love for cars. At the age of 12 I worked at
my dad’s gas station and body shop (formerly Bridgeport
Body Shop and now Johnson’s Body Shop, which is owned by my
brother). My first car was a 1956 Chevy which I bought in 1969.
Painted it purple, had the interior completely redone and ended
up selling it for $200 in 1975. I got a 1968 Camaro in 1975 as a
graduation gift and it still sits in the garage being restored (family
I plan on doing cruise-ins
and car shows as long as it remains fun and does not become a job.
Hope to see you at the next event. Have a safe trip home.
